Sigrun is a valkyrie and king's daughter who rides through storm and air, told in the Helgakvida Hundingsbana of the Poetic Edda. Bound by her father to wed Hodbrodd, she instead loves the hero Helgi and begs him to fight for her; he kills Hodbrodd and her father and brothers, sparing only her brother Dagr. Dagr later kills Helgi with Odin's spear in vengeance. Sigrun curses him, then climbs into Helgi's burial mound to lie one last night in the arms of his ghost. She dies of grief, and the lovers are said to be reborn.
