Pelops is the son of Tantalus, butchered by his father and served to the gods, then restored to life with an ivory shoulder where Demeter ate his own. To win Hippodamia he races her father Oenomaus, bribing the charioteer Myrtilus to sabotage the king's wheels. He triumphs but betrays Myrtilus, whose dying curse poisons the house of Pelops for generations, down to Atreus and Agamemnon.
