Nekhbet

Nekhbet is the white vulture goddess of Upper Egypt, patron of the southern city of Nekheb and tutelary protector of its kings. With her sister Wadjet, the cobra of the north, she forms the "Two Ladies" who guard the pharaoh and crown his royal titulary. She is often shown hovering above the king with wings spread, clutching the shen ring of eternity in her talons. As a maternal and protective power she also watched over childbirth. Her image appears on crowns and ceiling decorations, the southern guardian whose wings shelter Egypt's ruler.
