Wadjet

Wadjet is the cobra goddess and protector of Lower Egypt, her sister Nekhbet the vulture guarding the south. Together they are the Two Ladies whose names crown the pharaoh's titles. As the uraeus, the rearing cobra on the royal brow, she spits fire at the king's enemies and burns them to ash, sheltering the ruler beneath her hood. Patron of the Delta city of Buto, she helped Isis hide the infant Horus in the papyrus marshes. She is sovereignty made venomous, worn by every pharaoh as the living guarantee of the gods' protection.
