- Ra and Apophis: The Eternal Battle
Heka is the god and the very force of magic, the power that lets the gods act and creation hold together. He existed before duality, present at the first moment of the world, and even Ra depends on him to sail the sun across the sky. He is shown as a man, sometimes a child, often grasping two entwined serpents. Physicians, priests, and magicians all worked 'by the heka,' invoking him in healing spells, amulets, and rites; to wield words of power was to draw on the energy he embodied.
