Gudrun

Gudrun is a queen of the Volsung cycle, daughter of Gjuki and sister to Gunnar and Hogni. She marries the hero Sigurd, who is murdered in his bed by her brothers at Brynhildr's urging; her grief, unable even to weep until a shroud is drawn from his corpse, fills the Gudrunarkvida laments. Her mother brews a potion of forgetting so she will wed Atli, king of the Huns. When Atli slaughters her brothers for the Niflung gold, Gudrun takes a horrifying revenge: she kills the two sons she bore him, serves their hearts to him at feast, then burns his hall with him inside.
