Aegisthus is the son of Thyestes, born of the curse that poisons the house of Atreus, and cousin to Agamemnon. While the king wars at Troy, he seduces Queen Clytemnestra and rules Mycenae at her side. Together they murder Agamemnon on his return, and Aegisthus reigns until Orestes comes home to avenge his father and cut him down.
