Oeneus is the king of Calydon who, offering harvest sacrifices to all the gods, forgets Artemis. The slighted goddess sends a gigantic boar to ravage his land, drawing the heroes of Greece to the great Calydonian Hunt. He is the father of Meleager, who slays the beast, and of Deianira, the future wife of Heracles.
