Cepheus is the king of Aethiopia and husband of Cassiopeia, whose boast brings a sea-monster down upon his realm. Bound by the oracle's demand, he gives up his daughter Andromeda to be chained at the shore as the beast's prey. When Perseus saves her and claims her hand, the grateful king sees them wed, and is set in the stars as a constellation himself.
