Cassiopeia is the proud queen of Aethiopia who boasts that she, or her daughter Andromeda, is more beautiful than the sea-nymphs. The Nereids demand vengeance, and Poseidon sends a monster to ravage her land until Andromeda is offered to it. For her vanity she is bound to her throne among the stars, set to circle the pole forever upside down.
