Boreas is the fierce, bitter wind of winter, who sweeps down from the mountains of Thrace on dark wings. Strong and quick to anger, he carries off the Athenian princess Oreithyia to be his bride, and the Athenians later thank his storms for shattering the fleets of their enemies.
