Sacred mountain on Crete where Zeus was hidden and raised in secret.
On this mountain in Crete, the infant Zeus was hidden from his father Cronus, who devoured each of his children. Raised by the goat Amalthea and protected by the Curetes who clashed their shields to drown his cries, Zeus grew in secret strength. Mount Ida was also the site from which he would one day look down on the mortal world, beginning his reign over heaven and earth.
