Small and rugged, Ithaca was the beloved homeland of Odysseus, the goal of his decade-long odyssey after the fall of Troy. While he struggled across seas haunted by gods and monsters, his faithful wife Penelope wove and unwove her shroud, holding off a hall full of suitors. Ithaca represents the ancient Greek ideal of nostos, the longing for home.
