Ratatosk is the squirrel who races up and down the trunk of Yggdrasil, carrying spiteful messages between the eagle perched in the World Tree's crown and the dragon Nidhogg gnawing at its root far below. Named in Grimnismal and the Prose Edda, he stokes the ancient quarrel between the two beasts, ferrying insults to keep their enmity alive. Small and quick, he is the running tongue of strife along the great ash, a minor creature who keeps the tree's old feud forever burning.
