Hræsvelg

Hræsvelg, the Corpse Swallower, is a vast jotunn who sits in eagle form at the northern edge of the world, at the sky's rim where heaven meets the encircling sea. When he beats his wings or spreads his pinions to take flight, the wind rushes out beneath them, and from this every gale and breeze across the nine worlds is born. The Vafthrudnismal names him plainly when Odin asks where the wind comes from. Every storm that hammers a longhouse, every gust that drives a longship off course, begins with the slow, indifferent stirring of his feathers.
