Nestor is the old king of Pylos, the eldest of the Greek leaders at Troy, who outlives three generations and is prized for his wisdom and long-winded counsel. Once a hero of his youth, having fought Centaurs and sailed with the Argonauts, he now advises kings and tells of the glories of older days. He mourns his son Antilochus, slain by Memnon, and returns safely home to die among his people.
