Iolaus is the loyal nephew and companion of Heracles, driving his chariot through many of his exploits. When the Hydra grows two heads for each one struck off, it is Iolaus who sears each stump with fire so it cannot regrow, helping bring the monster down. Devoted to the hero, he later leads the defense of Heracles' persecuted children.
