Gungnir

Norse mythology

Gungnir

Odin's infallible spear, forged by the dwarves called the sons of Ivaldi, which never stops in its thrust and bears runes on its point.

Characters
Odin

Gungnir is Odin's infallible spear, a weapon that never stops in its thrust. Snorri's Skáldskaparmál says it was made by the dwarves known as the sons of Ivaldi, whom Loki had asked for new golden hair for Sif; the spear was then judged against the treasures forged by Brokk and Sindri, including Mjolnir. Sigrdrífumál lists Gungnir's point among the places where runes were carved, and Völuspá tells that Odin began the first war by hurling his spear into the enemy host. At Ragnarok he rides out with Gungnir, wearing a golden helmet, to face the wolf Fenrir.
