The Aegis
The divine shield of Zeus and Athena, a terrible weapon that inspired panic in all who saw it.
The Aegis was originally the breastplate or shield of Zeus, later associated with Athena who often bore it into battle. Made from the hide of the divine goat Amalthea or, in later accounts, from divine material by Hephaestus, it bore the head of Medusa at its center after Perseus presented it to Athena. When shaken, it produced the sound of thunder and sent enemies fleeing in divine panic.
