Narcissus

Narcissus is a youth of surpassing beauty who scorns every lover, including the fading nymph Echo, until the goddess Nemesis condemns him to love what he cannot have. Bending to drink at a clear pool, he falls hopelessly for his own reflection, unable to tear himself away from a love that can never be returned. He wastes there until he dies, and in his place springs the flower that bears his name.
