Laocoon is a Trojan priest who alone sees the danger of the wooden horse, hurling his spear into its flank and crying that he fears the Greeks even bearing gifts. As he prepares to sacrifice, two great serpents rise from the sea and crush him and his two sons in their coils. The Trojans take it as a sign that he offended the gods, and drag the horse inside to their doom.
