Heqet is the frog-headed goddess of childbirth and resurrection, her form drawn from the frogs that swarmed the Nile banks when the flood receded and life returned. As midwife to the gods she breathed life into the newborn and quickened the body in the womb; she helped Isis revive Osiris and presided over the birth of kings. Women wore frog amulets in her name for safe delivery, and her priestesses served as midwives. In her the Egyptians joined birth and rebirth into one sacred cycle.
