The Harpies are winged daughters of Thaumas and the Oceanid Electra, swift spirits of the storm-wind with the faces of women and the bodies of birds. They are best known for tormenting the blind seer Phineus, snatching the food from his table and befouling whatever they leave behind. The winged sons of the North Wind finally drive them off and free him from his endless hunger.
