Ganymede is a Trojan prince of such surpassing beauty that Zeus himself desires him, sweeping down as a great eagle to carry the youth up to Olympus. There he is made immortal and given the honored place of cupbearer to the gods, pouring their nectar at the eternal feast. Set among the stars as the constellation Aquarius, he becomes the most beloved mortal ever raised to dwell among the gods.
