Tyrfing

Norse mythology

Tyrfing

The cursed sword forged by the dwarves Dvalin and Durin, which gleams like sunlight but must cause death every time it is unsheathed.

Characters
Dvalin

Tyrfing is the cursed sword of the Hervarar saga. King Svafrlami, a grandson of Odin, trapped the dwarves Dvalin and Durin and forced them to forge him a sword with a golden hilt that would never rust, would cut through iron like cloth and would always bring victory. They made it shine like a ray of the sun, but cursed it: each time it was drawn it would cause a death, it would do three terrible deeds, and it would kill Svafrlami himself. The berserker Arngrim took it, it was buried with his son Angantyr, and Angantyr's daughter Hervor claimed it from his burial mound.
