The Sirens are winged maidens who sing from a flowery island heaped with the bones of the men they have lured. Their irresistible song promises all knowledge to any sailor who turns his ship toward their shore. Odysseus alone hears them and lives, lashed to his mast while his crew row past with wax-stopped ears.
