The Nemean Lion is a monstrous beast, offspring of Typhon and Echidna, whose tawny hide is impervious to iron, bronze, and stone. As his first Labor, Heracles finds his arrows and club useless against it, so he corners the lion in its cave and strangles it with his bare hands. He then skins it with its own razor claws and wears the invulnerable pelt as armor ever after.
