Nausicaa is the daughter of King Alcinous of the Phaeacians, sent by a dream to wash linens at the river. There she discovers the sea-battered Odysseus washed ashore and, unafraid, gives him clothing and guides him to her father's palace. Her kindness wins the hero a ship home, and though she half-hopes to wed him, she lets him go with grace.
