The Ceryneian Hind is a deer with golden antlers and bronze hooves, swifter than an arrow and sacred to Artemis. Heracles must capture her alive for his third Labor, pursuing her on foot for a full year before he can snare her without drawing blood. He carries her off only after appeasing the angry goddess whose creature she is.
