Norse mythology
Dainsleif
The sword of King Hogni, which once drawn can never be sheathed without taking a life, and inflicts wounds that never heal.
Dainsleif, Dáinn's heirloom, is the sword of King Högni, the father of Hildr, not the Hogni who was Gunnar's brother. Snorri tells in Skáldskaparmál that when King Hedin carried Hildr off, Högni pursued him to an island. Hedin offered gold for peace, but Högni answered that it was too late: he had already drawn Dainsleif, made by dwarves, which must cause a death every time it is bared, never fails in its stroke and gives wounds that never heal. The battle of the Hjadnings followed, and every night Hildr wakes the fallen with her magic so that they fight again, until Ragnarok.
