Nefertum is the lotus god of Memphis, the blue water lily that opened on the primeval waters of Nun and cradled the newborn sun at the first dawn. As son of Ptah and the lioness Sekhmet, he completes the Memphite triad. He appears as a youth crowned with a lotus blossom, often topped with twin plumes, and sometimes as a lion-headed god. His perfume is the fragrance of the world's first morning, linked to the daily renewal of Ra, and his blossom bridges the dark depths of Nun and the light above. He is invoked for healing and beauty alike.
